The Next Steps: Is it Fate?

Good morning Bigger Pockets,

As I venture into this world of real estate I realized one important fact, without action you cannot achieve results. So I started working on changing companies in my career field (restaurant management). I had a job lined up, gave my notice at my current place with a built in week long break and was all set and ready to work for better pay with reduced hours and devote more time to real estate.

And as my last few days at my current job wound down and I anticipated my new job my excitement grew. I started having dreams and those dreams turned to plans. And those plans sat waiting on the time I could take action. And then, I got the call.

"Roger, it's XXXX from YYYY and I have some unfortunate news. We couldnt get the permits to open the new store. So we have backed up the opening to the end of October and consequently we don't know when and even if we can start you." The conversation was brief, but I thanked them for their time and consideration and moved on.

I was disappointed at first, but I quickly realized my goals and my plans. Maybe I wasn't supposed to get that job. Maybe it was all supposed to fall through. I opened the paper to find the classifieds. I wanted a job in real estate. I searched for property manager, entry level contractor, real estate agent and then I found it. The ad I needed. Irongate was looking for realtors. I gave them a call and set up an appointment.

After a good discussion with the recruiter, I signed my life away to them. Saying that when I passed my classes and the state test they would sponsor me. It's a done deal. I registered for classes, found two part time jobs, and talked to my family for support.

I know the next few months will be a worthwhile struggle for me. One of my employees told me last night, "Rod, I'm not sure there is anything you wouldn't be good at." Talk about a confidence boost.

I was wading in the shallow end, but life snuck up behind me and dunked me in. And so now I see if I will sink or swim. I know I will swim.

Challenge accepted.
