Start Your Real Estate Career with an Online Certification Course

If you have the basic interest and ability to launch a career in real estate, all you really need is the education. Today's real estate agents have many more ways to launch their career that agents from years past, thanks to the newfound ability to study real estate online. In this post, learn how quick and easy it can be to start your real estate career by taking online courses to become a real estate agent.

An Overview of Real Estate Career Requirements
In addition to completing your education, there are additional requirements you must meet to pursue a career in real estate.

- Be 18 or 19 years old (check with your state for specifics).
- Be a resident of the U.S.A.
- Show proof of completion of real estate courses online (or offline).
- Successfully pass your real estate licensure examination.

Choosing Your Online Certification Course
As an aspiring real estate agent, you will find you have many online estate agent courses you can choose from. But because you have so many choices, you also want to make sure you carefully review what each has to offer and choose the program that offers you the most value for your investment.

What to look for:

- A program with a great reputation and many positive graduate testimonials.
- A program that is approved for use by students who plan to sell real estate in your state of residence.
- A program that has excellent instructors and high quality course content.
- A program that is focused on post-graduate success to help students successfully launch their real estate career.

What to Expect from Online Real Estate Education
If you have only experienced live in-classroom instruction at a brick-and-mortar institution, it is important to understand that enrolling in a real estate program online will be a different experience. Many students find they prefer the online experience.

Here are some of the benefits of real estate online education:

- You can work at your own pace from home or on your mobile device.
- You can study or listen to lectures anytime from anywhere there is a WiFi connection.
- You can participate in online study groups and use email to get your questions answered or get extra help with certain topics.
- You won't pay as much (if anything) for student fees because online institutions typically have much lower overhead than their brick-and-mortar counterparts.
- Even if you need to travel to a physical location to take exams, this keeps your commute time to a bare minimum so you can complete your coursework quickly and efficiently.

Launching and Continuing Your Career Dream Through Online Education
Another great perk that comes with online courses in real estate is that you can also meet any continuing education requirements with online coursework. Once you learn the ropes of how it works to take classes and exams online, and you realize how much time and money it can save you, you can continue to take classes as your real estate schedule permits so you can learn new techniques to boost lead generation, closings, commissions and referrals.

A Word of Caution: Check with Your State Before Enrolling!
One critical thing you need to do before enrolling in any online institution is to double-check your state's real estate licensing requirements. This is because different states cab have very different requirements. As well, some states may set out your requirements in terms of hours of education or number of courses while others require you to enroll in certain specific courses to qualify to sit for your licensing exam.

Next Steps to Launch Your Real Estate Career
Once you have completed your online coursework and successfully passed your licensing exam, you have everything you need to begin practicing real estate in your state. From here, your next step will be to sign on with a real estate brokerage firm. It is a requirement to practice real estate that you must work with a broker (a professional with at least three years' of professional real estate experience) and this is also to your benefit as you learn the ropes of your new career.

Once this final requirement is fulfilled, the sky is literally the limit for you in your new real estate career!

  1. Sarah,

Good information.  Thank you.  I've been considering getting my license, but I don't know how important it is for my investment goals.  The expense to maintain the license and the time required to complete CE courses may be more cost than benefit.  Dr other investors find it more beneficial to have their agent license?
