Working Without Pay - Momentum Building

You go to college so you can get the degree and find a well-paying, safe, secure job...  Right?  This couldn't be further from the actual situation I am in.

As I was listening to BP Podcast 213, it was recommended that recent college grads don't worry so much about getting big bucks right off the bat.  What we should be focusing on is learning the skills necessary to accomplish something that we are passionate about.  For me, that passion is real estate.

As of date, I have not gotten paid a nickel for the work that I have done - and I am working at least 30 hours a week in real estate related work.  Am I upset about this?  Not at all!  I found a way to make it work.  We are living with my parents again, which is kind of embarrasing, but the very cheap rent - I just mow the grass and take out the occassional trash.  Also, I make a few extra dollars to cover our expenses working for my dads start-up, which pays amazing per hour, so I don't have to spend much time at it.

Like other college grads, my wife and I were super excited to get out of college so we could finally start making some money.  Well, I was making more money back in college.  We also wanted to travel to a new place, and start "our own path".  Again, this did not happen.  Life has not turned out the way I thought it was..  BUT, I'm finally doing something that I love.  Although I have not received a monetary reward from my rewards have been much greater.  The monetary reward will come soon enough.

For me, I wake up every morning excited for the next day.  I know that all the time that I am putting into this work will pay off big time in the long run.  For now, I am just loving the experience.  I'm networking with high net-worth individuals often.  I'm talking on the phone with sellers and real estate agents.  I'm creating marketing campaigns of all sorts - like direct mail, and door hangers.

With all of this work, I still haven't closed my first deal.  I thought it would have been a bit easier than this.  Although this is a bit frustrating, and my wallet is empty, I can feel the momentum building.  I can feel the lead funnel filling up, and sooner or later there will be deals dropping into our laps from the marketing that I have been doing.
