Cultivate The Sense of Community

Right now, walkable cities like New York, Boston and Miami are more popular than ever before. As new wealthy generations look for amenities in the immediate vicinity, mixed-use developments are growing in popularity. In order to meet the demands of all those people who want an urban, walkable lifestyle, developers are building more residential projects with a mixed-use component. Haysha Deitsch is founder and CEO of Beechwood Acquisitions, a real estate development and acquisitions company, principally engaged in the acquisition and development of mixed-use residential and commercial real estate. He describes mixed-used projects as buildings that combine retail businesses and residential spaces, united in a harmonious fashion. The company’s main focus is urban-infill projects with a direct impact on the urban environment. So far, Mr. Deitsch has been involved in multifamily buildings and integrated mixed-use residential projects fit for all demographic groups.

In the past two decades, we have seen increasing mixed-use development activity. However, that doesn’t mean that the whole notion of mixed-use projects is new. In fact, mixed-use development has been an integral part of the urban landscape for centuries, and many large US cities are built on the backs of mixed-use projects.

Offering a convenient combination of residential, commercial and retail space, it’s no wonder that mixed-use developments are becoming increasingly popular in downtown and suburban areas alike. Mixed-use developments are real estate projects with planned integration of retail, office, residential, hotel, recreation, and other functions. They are pedestrian-oriented and maximize space usage.

Haysha Deitsch understands the need for flexibility and livability, which is why he continues to turn towards mixed-use developments. For decades, he has been at the forefront of New York City' urban planning community, leaving his fingerprints on some of the city's best mixed-use projects. His current success in NYC has given him the confidence to bring mixed-use in other cities as well.

As time passes, attitudes are changing and perceptions are shifting. Every day, there are new mixed-use projects popping up across the city. These projects have found new life among all age groups. From aging baby boomers to millennials, people want to live in walkable neighborhoods and capture that community feel. Nowadays there are even a lot of retirees and single people that choose to downsize from their big empty homes and experience that vibrant city feels. Vibrancy is key to development, and mixed-use helps cultivate a deeper sense of community.
