Leaky Septic on Short Sale

Where the home is located the septic system must be inspected and certified in good working order prior to closing. Usually the seller pays for this, but in short sales the buyer is responsible. Long story short. The sewer line and septic are shot. I have filed an admendment on the offer requesting the issues be fixed. Is there any chance that a bank would actually fix this? Has anyone had experience with a similar situation? I believe the bank could request a temporary waiver and just discount the price leaving the responsibilty to fix it on me. I would rather it just get fixed.
