Can we use 1031 to buy rental then also build primary on the land
We have a duplex and would like to sell it to buy a house on a 5 acre plot of land. That house will become a rental unit right away but we would like to build a new house for our primary residence on the land as well. Would this be allowed with a 1031 exchange? If so, are their any time constraints on building our primary residence? Do we have to wait or can we begin building right away?
Also can a 1031 exchange be used if we plan to use the house that is on the property as a Bed and Breakfast/Airbnb type rental?
