My 3 Favorite Books To Get Started Investing In Real Estate

So reading these books won't make you an investor overnight, let's just state the obvious here.

However, they will provide you with a solid foundation of what is possible so that you can begin to expand your mindset.

Learning how to invest in real estate is like learning a new language, both can be challenging and require dedication and perseverance, but once you speak it, you broaden your horizons.

As an added bonus, real estate can help you achieve financial freedom and escape the 9-5.

So, here are the first three books you should read if you want to learn about real estate investing:

  • "The Art of Wholesaling Properties" by Aram Shah and Alex Virelles is all about wholesaling real estate. If you have little to no money, start here.
  • "Building Wealth One House At A Time" by John Schaub is a must-read beginner resource for anyone interested in single family home investing. You don't need 100 units to be financially free and this book shows you why.
  • "Crushing It in Apartments and Commercial Real Estate" by Brian H Murray is a great primer and introduction if you want to go bigger and focus on commercial real estate.

Let me know what you think or if you have any you want to add to the mix!

"Long Distance Real Estate Investing" was hugely impactful for me early on in my real estate journey because it made me realize that you don't have to live where you invest! This was an important concept for me to understand and embrace as a military member, because i knew I would be moving every few years. I'm very comfortable buying out of state, and if it wasn't for that book I probably wouldn't be.

Long Distance REI was very helpful for me too.

I'd also argue that mindset/non-RE books are beneficial as well. Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink, The One Thing by Gary Keller, and Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss are some of my favorites.

Two of my favorites: "The Unofficial Guide to Real Estate Investing" by Spencer Strauss (may have to buy used) and "Every Landlord's Legal Guide" by NOLO. Both are full of practical advice suitable for beginners and even those with a few years experience looking to expand their skill set.

My wife and I love "Million Dollar RE Agent" by Gary Keller, "Million dollar investor" by Gary Keller, and "The Abcs of Commercial Real Estate investing" by Ken McElroy. These are amazing and helpful guides that will steer you to a successful real estate business.
