I am currently working but the company I work for has had a lot of major set backs in the past couple of months. Based on the meeting we had this morning, I doubt if my department will exist much longer. I am looking to house hack in the next 6 months when my lease is up.

Probably not, lenders want to see that you have the income to pay your mortgage, so it may be time to start looking for your next job so that your time between jobs is minimized if you can't find something you like before your department is shut down.
