Starting Out as a Family of 6

My husband and I are hoping to start investing in rental properties. We are in our 30's with 4 kids (7 and under). We haven't met many people starting out with large families.  I see a lot of people starting out by house hacking. This really isn't an option for us.  For those of you who have larger families, how did you start? I would love to hear different strategies and the outcomes.

House hacking may still be an option depending on where you live, it just won't be as lucrative there are many cities around the country where a single family home will have a granny flat in the form of an attached room with a separate entrance, a casita in the backyard or even a basement apartment. Living in the SFR would give you the space you need and you could rent out the granny flat.
