Real Estate License

I am interested in getting my real estate license for purposes of access to the MLS and visiting properties as wanted. However, I understand I have to be under the umbrella of a broker in order to have the access I am looking for. I do not have the intention of actually working for the broker, selling houses and joining their rotations for Saturday office hours.

Do you have any suggestions as to how I can sell myself to a broker to allow me to do this?  What are the dangers for the broker by allowing me to do so.

Do you have to be a real estate agent for a number of years or sales prior to becoming a broker? Or can you simply take the broker course after the agent course?

I live in Maine. I understand rules may be different in other states.

Thanks!
