Happy Saturday afternoon,
Take a look at this article, it outlines how much money the average person has left after living expenses in various cities.
There are no cities on the west coast that an average worker would have any money left.
There are 3 cities on the east coast.
There are a few cities inland that would work.
I think this is bad for our business and the US in general.
How do you think this effects our business and the US?
Affordability is a major issue for certain markets. Teachers in the Bay area have a hard time paying their bills. This is a problem.
There are many reasons for this, too many to discuss here. One though is important. It is difficult to add new supply to the market in many coastal areas. Zoning and other costs make it near impossible to build density housing.
You make a good point. To your question, where do teachers and firefighters live in SF? A two hour commute?
not sure if I'm understanding the point of this thread
If the point is there's very few places to live where you can work a regular job and own a house I would completely disagree
Off the top my head I could Name 30 towns in upstate New York where A couple could work blue-collar jobs and Easily afford a home and live in a perfectly safe happy friendly community
Well, I am not sure it has changed much. Not many people can afford to live in Manhattan, yet the place is the hub of employment (and I wouldn't mind owning an apartment building there).
Might be good news for the car industry and the public transportation authorities.
Of course this is bad, and it will continue as long as people are stupid enough to continue working without being paid enough to cover their expenses. Demand higher wages; some employers can afford to pay more, but others may not. It's a truly difficult problem.
