House Hack Rules - New Investor

Hey All,

I am new to BP and getting involved heavily in learning more about real estate investing. I am looking to buy my first property as we speak and would like to house hack it.

If anyone has done this strategy and would like to share the pros and cons of this strategy, please let me know.

Any advice at this point in my real estate journey is more than helpful. Thank you.

Really, the only major con I had was just having a roommate. I wasn't able to purchase a multi-family property, but I did a house hack through college in a traditional house. It worked out well and I had house mates paying a large portion of my living expense. Other than your typical roommate complaints that you would have in any house, I didn't have any issues. Living in a multifamily property and renting out part people you don't know, I can see how it would be hard to separate "property manager" from owner mentality.
