Looking at getting started with first property

I'm a 39 year old male about 45 minutes outside Chicago. I was looking at getting started with a duplex as my first investment property. I don't have the best credit, so I might have to look at hard money in order to get started. Would anyone have any ideas on how to get started?

Your best option would be to start networking with  local like-minded  investors .  Look for a local reia that you could join

@Thomas Bambrick Just FYI many HMLs are looking for 600+ credit scores. I think you may need to find a partner for your first deal that has the credit or just has enough cash on hand. You can be the knowledge piece of the partnership. Study, read, listen as much as you can so that you have all the book knowledge you could possibly have.
