Contract Assignment: no inspection?, go straight to seller?

He said the following "Upon acceptance we would assign the current contract to you. With this contract we have an AS-IS deal with the seller so we would not be doing an inspection. I got nervous that we could not do an inspection to find any large items. Could I possibly contact the seller directly and go into negotiations with him directly and not deal with the middle man?
