A hospitality motel has gone up for sale near me. 9 units of around 550sq ft each and an 1800 sq ft office space. Has anyone converted one of these to efficiency rentals? Will the property type need to be changed legally? What kind of issues might I run into?
I own a 10 unit in Western New York.. Same set up.. No problem in New York.. Separate metering would only be a small issue..

@Stephen Chaney Check with the town office / city hall (code enforcement, zoning, etc) to see if what you want to do would be a permitted use. It's generally easier to go from short term rentals to longer term ones but it's not a guarantee. A quick conversation with whichever municipal employee makes that call should give you some good insight as to whether it's worth pursuing.
