Earnest Money Questions

Hey Everyone,

My parents are selling their house in Georgia and the buyers keep pushing back the closing date because they are waiting for the buyer of their house to come through with paperwork. I'm not entirely sure of the details but the buyer of the buyers house is getting divorced and waiting on divorce paperwork to clear in order to close on that house which in turn keeps pushing back the closing date. One of the details I do know is the closing was supposed to take place on 8/28 and my parents weren't notified until the afternoon of 8/28 that they were going to push back and sent them all new documents about a new closing date. Obviously, lots of money has been spent on storage units, moving supplies, etc. so at what point is the earnest money sent to the sellers?

Thank you in advance for your help!
