Correct way to buy preforeclosures.

I know everyone has a different opinion about buying pre-foreclosure, but I want to know what is the absolute correct way to buy pre-foreclosures? What is the best exit strategy among others when buying a pre-foreclosure? Is it as complicated as some may say it is to buy a home in pre-foreclosure? Is there a script anyone uses to contact the homeowner in pre-foreclosure? Would you say it is easier to buy a list of pre-foreclosure leads than to go get the list in person?
