As a GC, do your subs make the contract terms, do you, or a mix?

I'm thinking that I will accept/sign the subs' proposal and create a scope of work/specifications I want them to sign.  Is this the typical way of doing things or are there other methods you all have used that work to make sure the subs do what you want them to do.  Thanks.

The way we do it is we take their proposal (primarily scope portion only) andd incorporate itinto our contract. The general terms are in our contract such as pay when paid, indemnification, insurance etc. I would not sign their proposal at all.
