Learning Key Building Pathology Skills

Hi Guys,

I've just moved from the UK to the US (NYC) and I'm looking to find out how everything operates over here and what I can do to get on site knowledge.

I have a degree in building surveying, which is essentially facility condition assessments and while I finished top of my class I never actually managed to get on site and get that valuable construction knowledge.

My plan in the UK, like I imagine many of yours is, was to buy houses BMV that required work doing e.g fire damaged houses, buy them, fix them up and sell them on at a profit. My job, which is a UK speciality and doesn't exist here in the same format would have taught me how to do this so I could learn while getting paid.

Through a twist of fate (I met my wife) I've ended up in New York but I'm still looking to take a job that will teach me the skills I need to do the above.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Kind regards,

Stu
