POV - Why do you believe in real estate investing?

Please share your "Why?"

Here's mine: Personally, I believe in real estate investing  because I don't believe in job security.

This has been my experience...I have worked since I was 15 years old, mostly for small businesses and I have had paychecks bounce and have shown up to the office to find the electric bill wasn't paid and the lights and phone systems were down, to name a few. I dedicated over 20 years to these businesses and learned that I cannot rely on a paycheck.

Real estate had been my "side gig" for many years, as an agent. I've been fortunate to work with investors and have learned a lot from helping them over the years. I've studied the market and seen many shifts and changes over the last 18 years. I've also seen my clients investments grow and many times thought, I wish I'd bought an investment property for myself, then...then...then...

I see owning property as a more secure source of income in the long run.

So, Why do you believe in real estate investing?

Real estate provides a unique opportunity to financial freedom that many 9-5 jobs do not. I am not there yet but many of my family members are. I know there may be headaches that arrive along the way but the consensus of the Real estate community is overwhelmingly positive.

It can be difficult to get started because of the perceived risks and barrier to entry. The more and more knowledge I have acquired that more it just makes sense to pursue.

Real Estate is people business. It is one of the few products everybody consumes. Many successful people made money in real estate before branching to other lines of businesses.

for me, its the only business i can do with the talents i have, that will give me the results i want.  i believe this to be true for so many who get in real estate.  sad thing is, so many give up without every realizing the upside of this amazing business.

I watched cars repossessed, bankruptcies filed, and that person made 6-figures, in the 80's. They had a pension so their belief was they had financial stability. That person was my father. It was wired into me young that I needed to be financially smart, and I wanted to control my future. While I have not taken as many risks, looking back, as I wish I would have. I know the steps I have taken; deals I have done have helped to create financial stability for my 2 children. So for me why I believe in it, is after 17 years of owning homes, it has worked, and my returns have been greater than a 401K had yielded. Thank you for posting this question. I feel it is about defining our WHO so that there is synergy with our WHY.

If you consider the foundation of all investments it leads back to real estate. Precious metals, oil & gas, and really any commodity or service all need some form of real estate infrastructure.

I believe in REI because people are always going to need a place. Place to live, place to do business etc. Real estate is everywhere the sky is the limit.

"I had no choice, I had to make it on my own, and the only way was thru real estate.  I had it all, big executive, my own company....and then one day someone yelled, 'Hey! he's just a big cockroach!'"

I believe because I have the evidence in my bank account every month. Every month.

Financial freedom (any time I want it). Incredible net worth instead of the overwhelming debt most Americans carry. I live simply, but I have the financial freedom to do what I want, when I want, without borrowing.

  1. “Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.” – Proverbs 13:11
  2. “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” – Proverbs 21:5
  3. “Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.” – Proverbs 16:8
  4. “A faithful man will abound with blessings, but whoever hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.” – Proverbs 28:20
  5. “Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.” – Proverbs 11:28
  6. “Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.” – Proverbs 21:17

I believe in Real estate investing:

1. Real Estate investing is people’s business. I you learn the skill, you have opportunity to make big checks.
2. You have to do your due diligence, the information on the properties are available in the public records.
3. Government is supportive by giving investors robust  tax incentive, especially Texas State for wear and tear on the rental properties.

I believe in real estate investing, because of its many financial possibilities, and I do not want to work for anyone, I would like to control my narrative!

There are so many amazing answers here, I love it!

My "why" is not only for myself but also for my family. I stumbled upon real estate investing from a friend who was successful in the business and started teaching me about it. It wasn't until my wife and I had to move that we decided to keep our primary residence and turn it into a rental. Ever since then, something changed. I saw exactly what my friend was saying all along. Making an extra income each month made a huge impact on my family and allowed us to live more freely. I used to work as an ultrasound tech, but about 6 months ago, I got my real estate license, and I turned real estate into my full-time job. I love the flexibility it offers and the opportunities are endless if you are willing to put in the work.
