Squatters in deceased home

Daniel LaRue
Posted Aug 10 2022, 06:23

Friends mothers neighbor has passed and her old roommate is still on property. The home owner has no living relatives, and I was wondering if there is a way for us to take ownership or purchase the home (from who?)

Any advice would be great.

It depends whether she had a will (in which case you could buy it from whoever inherited it) or died intestate (in which case it would have to go through probate, which takes much longer).

A local probate attorney could help you figure it out.

Hey Daniel,

I have a couple probate attorney POCs that might be able to help.  What part of town is the property in?

I would get a attorney involved. Maybe find a lawyer owned title company to handle the process for you
