Grand Rapids, MI Real Estate Laywers
Hello Everyone,
I am currently setting up an MLLC in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was curious if anyone had suggestions for a good real estate focused lawyer that they have worked with in the area? I have a rough draft of an operating agreement that I drew up with my partner and I would like to have it reviewed. I appreciate the help!
Thank you in advance,
James Scott
LLCs aren't particularly difficult. I used to practice in Grand Rapids before I moved south. Pretty much any local lawyer should be able to help you but most the people I used to work with would probably be able to write you a clean operating agreement cheaper than reviewing one you wrote.
Best idea is to probably find someone you like and let them write something up that meets your goals
Sorry I can't recommend someone specific

I was debating which way would be quicker for the lawyer, so that is helpful. No worries on not having anyone specific. I appreciate the advice!
Thank you,
James Scott
There is one here on BP, I just cant remember his name. Try the search function, he holds some investors classes and stuff at the local REI group

What can you tell me about the local group. I'm from GR and I'd like to come check it out sometime when I am in the area. I make about 5-7 trips up a year. Side note I'd also be happy to network with GR investors particularly multi-family investors.

@Tim Johnson
I’ve tried searching variations of Grand Rapids, Mi and Lawyer, which doesn’t narrow it down much, but I’ll keep looking through the profiles. Google did provide some good leads though.
Thank you for the advice,
James Scott

I don’t have knowledge about the group @Tim Johnson is referring too, but I have been planning to start a meet up in Grand Rapids, my self. Happens to be that multi family is my niche as well, I have one duplex and I’m working on getting a 3 or 4 unit now. I’d be happy to set up a meet up for the next time you’re in town Jeffrey, if you’re interested. I would love to hear about your experiences.
@James Scott like was mentioned, you don't have to have an LLC but if you still need a lawyer, I have used a couple in GR and have finally found one who was reliable and pretty well priced. Phillip Slot at Slot Law Group has been great to work with, helped me with a couple situations and my experience was top notch, I'd highly recommend.
@clay powell See if my tag works, he runs a nice group and they meet monthly He can fill you in more
@James Scott sent you connection request. Happy to Meetup sometime. Won't be up that way until late Sept or October since I'm heading to China next week but when I get back I'll be needing to head to Detroit for some real estate reasons I'll definitely be in GR for a bit too.

Just fo the articles of org with Lara but always good to have a good lawyer. Try Todd Stewart
@Brock Carroll
Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll look into him.

@Charles Kao
Are you saying I can find an operating agreement on Lara? And thank you for the suggestion of a lawyer, I’ll look into them!
-James
@James Scott No I meant the LLC docs. Todd Stuart can look over your operating agreement for you. What most lawyers charge is pretty reasonable I have found.
@Charles Kao I understand, now. And yes, I also found he is the most reasonable during my search. Thanks again for the recommendation!
