Is Vancouver Wa. or Portland Or. a better place to buy rental properties?

I'm new to the Portland area and plan on buying a couple rental properties this year. My family and I love living in here in Portland, however I am unsure whether it is the right place for me to invest. I like the idea of investing in Vancouver Wa. for the tax break, but I know little of that of that city too. Does anybody have experience with rental properties in either city?

I own 2 properties with one property being rented out by rooms. I cover water, wifi, and even have a cleaner come by once a month to prevent any problems with cleanliness. They are long term rentals. I suggest buying 3+ bedrooms and renting out by room to 3x your net profit. The reason is because Portland is a high price market and you have to make things work for you. Hope this helps feel free to reach out.

Neither. Both state laws are heavily weighted against you in favor of the tenant.  The old days are gone. It's complex and you seriously need to know what you're doing. Don't jump in without a complete understanding of the pitfalls.

Hi Garrett,

I just went through this and ultimately decided on buying in Milwaukie, just south of Portland. It is in Clackamas County rather than Multnomah. Clackamas is much more landlord friendly in comparison, yet is still only 15 minutes from downtown. I'm a local agent here, I would love to help you in your search!
