Somalia Mogadishu landowner at 23
I grew up in England, UK I struggled to find a profitable market and working a 9-5 job, the hassle of living on payslip to payslip had inevitably led me to venture outside the country. So much so that I went back to my roots, Somalia, Mogadishu. Yes a war torn country with over a 30 year history of conflict and war. But as of recent stability and peace has returned but I can-not say whether the future is bright or much darkness is on the horizon. However as many of you know in business the bigger the risk the bigger the reward. I have been investing back home for many years and have bought up many land. Land here is sold as “boos” legit means “position” a boos is land which is 15m by 20m which is 300 square metres. Just at the turn of 2020 a boos 6miles outside of Mogadishu was worth $500 now that same boos goes for $2000. I have bought up to about 100’000 square metres. 60’000 square metres of which is farmland. Which I have recently started investing in. Much of my money goes towards buying land and reselling, revenue is slow but I have accumulated enough land as assets now. So I have begun to invest in the farm. I will explain much of my plan and I can show you what I have accomplished as well as my general idea and goals for next year. I would advise those interested to get in contact as soon as possible as Somalia has recently signed a 10 year agreement with turkey to drill 3 oil blocks around 100km more or less off the coast of Somalia. These assets will be guarded by Turkish navy. Also I am 23 years of age, I deem it necessary that you should know this before hand as I don’t have time to waste.
Somalia has over 40 million livestock and almost zero feed pellet production. There is a lot of potential in this market as livestocks are the backbone of Somali economy. I have tried on a small scale and I was able to sell 50kg bags at around $15 local and at $20 to $30 at the market place. Somali livestock eat what they can either the left overs of their owners or of the streets. If you own farmland only then are the livestock able to eat grass. However when a famine hits large numbers of livestock die. I want to start up a 1ton production line. I have contacted many Chinese suppliers and the best quote I was able to find is at $17’000 not including shipping. I would like to raise around $60’000 to help fund this start up. I have available about 60’000 square meters of land that I am able to grow grass and other plants needed. Due to restrictions in funds I have only managed to till 20% of the land. Of that 20% Only 2% have grown enough to be harvested which was around 500kg. It takes about 45 days for the grass to grow to a height of 6ft and only needs to be planted once every 9 years. All the machines will run on a diesel generator which is included in the $17’000 for the production line. The extra $43’000 will go into transport of the equipment as well as building an enclosure for it. I will be able to turn profit within the first 3 month after the delivery and setup period which could be anywhere from 3/4months. Whatever is left will be used to till as much of the land as possible, until profit can be used to buy more land or expand. The cost to run is negligible as fuel is very cheap as well as manual labour and materials are also cheap and we grow as much of it as we can. We have our own irrigation system, we also have our own water source which we invested in. The only expenditure is fuel and potentially material as we might not be able to keep up with production till we are able to make use of all the land. But material are very cheap and it is still a significant turnover in profit even when purchasing materials. We use solar energy and batteries to power any electrical equipment. The best part is there are no competitors as of this moment. We can be the first if we’re able to start up the production line. The quicker we act the more of the market we can monopolise we already have a head start in terms of land development as we have acquired over 60’000 square meters of land. Land value are increasing at a steady rate just as of yesterday 300 square meters of land in the surrounding area was sold at $3000.
Sounds like a great opportunity, but unfortunately I just invested all my money helping a Nigerian Prince get himself and his royal inheritance out of his country. Any day now my cut is coming and I can retire. Hey, no risk, no reward!
If you're for real, I wish you the best. It's wonderful to see someone so young take the initiative and the risks to build something for themselves. I'd love to see some pictures of the area.
While there clearly is the possibility to make money in Somalia, given the things like coups, islamic terrorists, political instability, rampant crime, and lack of personal safety, the risks seem to far outweigh the rewards.
