[Oakland, CA] Egress Requirements

Hi,

If I'm reading the CA building code requirements, all rental units are required to have at minimum 2 egress options for the tenant.  Is this correct?  

Can a second floor window that meets egress sizing requirements serve as the second egress option, in addition to the front door?  Does that second floor window require a fire ladder installed permanently, or can one be provided as a stand-alone unit?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
