Hello All,
I’m feeling very excited! I have been researching real estate for several years and will be closing on my first deal next week!
My first deal is a single family house hack. I’m planning on living in 1 room and renting the 2 other bedrooms out to family members. With the additional income, my mortgage and taxes are basically covered.
Best,
Dean

Hey @Dean DeMattia , congrats on getting started! My second property was a house hack, and it's treated me VERY well. After two and a half years of it, I'm putting an end to it this spring though. I'm looking forward to having my house be my HOME, and I'm in a financial position where I can finally afford to not have housemates.
Stamford is a tough market to get into for real estate investing, but buying a Single family that you will house hack certainly makes it doable!
What's next for you?!

@Filipe Pereira Thanks Filipe, really appreciate it! Sounds like you have some good experience!
I’m thinking about buying a 3-4 unit in either CT or upstate New York. I’ve done quite a bit of analysis but yet to pick a town.

Yes, house hacking was financially awesome for me. Not having to worry about your mortgage payment every month really reduces the ongoing stress you carry each day.
If all else is equal between the towns you are looking in in CT and NY, I would stay in CT. The state is more landlord friendly (for now) than NY.

@Steven Luttman I’ve looked at many places such as: Albany, Troy, Buffalo, Rochester, Poughkeepsie, Syracuse, and Binghamton.
I went to college in Albany so am familiar with the capital region.
