Hello everyone. Do you guys use or suggest full security systems for your short term rentals or just use an external camera or two?

Neither. one of my places is in a safe downtown area, never had any problems. The other is on my property so there won't be any issues there.

Why are you feeling a need for security? To keep an eye on your guests?

I plug in a security camera facing the front door and the HDTV when my places are unoccupied.  Crime is pretty bad in my town, there is no tourism either.  I've caught people that broke in on camera.  Police are on the scene within 45 seconds.  The person that broke in gets to take a ride in the back seat of a black and white limo.

Just cameras.

It also helps us to let the cleaners know if they can get started earlier.

Just cameras as well, but I still haven't put up mine. I have a EUFY solar powered 2k unit I got in a 2 pack from Costco. I need to get on that. :)

I use a Ring spot light camera, should be enough unless your property has multiple entrances or sits empty often.
