AirBnB/Short Term Rentals in Marina del Rey, CA

I'm looking for advice on STRs in Marina del Rey. It's an unincorporated community so the rules should be looser than in the nearby City of Los Angeles. However it's made up of mostly condos so HOA rules may be pretty limiting.

What I was thinking of doing is buying a condo as a pied-a-terre for my parents and short-term renting it while they’re not there.

Most condo's won't allow rentals under 30 days long. You could do a midterm rental if you'd like to try and maximize rents.

I would make sure you're allowed to STR. How many days a year? What's the permitting?

I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure LA's rules apply to MDR and non owner occupied STRs aren't allowed. MTR are a great alternative to consider as Ryan mentioned. We pivoted from STRs in SoCal to MTRs specifically because of regulations like Los Angeles's. Happy to chat more about MTRs in LA =)
