We started our Airb&b the end of October. My friend who also has an Airb&b did not say I needed a business license. Hers is in Cosby and ours is in Sevierville County. I want to do what’s right so as not to get penalized. Also I’m thinking I need to charge an extra tax as well on my room rentals?

Hey @Mary Sikes . Gratz on your place! Here is a post on the forum that talks about it. I am sure the Julie McCoy or the Carl's will chime in with info.

It varies by location. Call your local code enforcement office. They should be able to tell you exactly what you need to be in compliance.

Hey @Mary Sikes one of the Carl’s here. Contact mylodgetax.com they will get your business license for you and pay your taxes for a small fee. Highly recommend.

@Mary Sikes I second what @Lucas Carl said - business licenses etc. in Sevierville are easy to obtain, but the number of taxes and the frequency they are remitted can be complicated. Look up Avalara MyLodgeTax - they'll get the license for you, and remit your taxes for you for a small fee. 100% worth it in my opinion.
