Converting Single Family to Duplex or Triplex in Oakland

Hi All,

I found a great deal in Oakland and I'm planning on converting the single family home into a duplex. I'm not sure where to start to ensure I'm doing my due diligence and estimating permit and construction fees accurately. I'm most concerned with zoning/conversion and permitting fees for adding a kitchenette and converting to a duplex immediately. It also has a huge basement and I'll need to replace the brick foundation eventually, at which time I would like to convert the property to a triplex so I would also like to ensure it can be converted to a triplex eventually, as I understand SFR to Duplex is a little easier than Duplex to Triplex.
