From New York, I want to Start a New Life in Maine!

Hello BiggerPockets Community! My name is Logan Stecher or I also go by Logan Snake as sort of a pen name. I have moved to Auburn, Maine from Long Island, NY and want to begin a future in Real Estate Investing. I have read a few books prior to moving and made some plans on making the current ranch home I live in into a future rental. My passion is to obtain properties for renting, both residential and commercial, and apply solar panels to all of them to help shift our modern world to a greener future. I take climate change very seriously and want to be apart of the change.

While I am working on repairs in the current Auburn house, I am working to set up my real estate future through connections. As such, I would love to meet up with anyone in Lewiston to Portland, ME area to gain knowledge. Whether we meet-up at a property that you need help with some repairs or you simply want a cup of coffee, I'm willing to be there as a listening ear.

@Logan Stecher  This sounds like an exciting adventure. I read an article recently about the migration of people being a big thing in VT especially, but I am sure Maine is seeing growth as well. Now that people have the option to work from anywhere, it has helped many get out of the big, high-cost cities.  

You don't want to forget exploring the tax benefits of investments in commercial RE and, yes, even residential rentals. Don't pay more in taxes than you need to pay. Leverage that cash flow into another property!

I'm not a native or resident of Maine but own property there and plan on buying more in the future. I'm still learning but have been at this a few years and would love to be a resource if I can. I have nothing to sell and my "wisdom" is probably worth what you pay for it, but I remember starting out in both real estate and starting a traditional business. In both cases, I had some friends and mentors that made that journey a little less isolated. Shoot me a DM if you want to chat further. And how are you at landscaping and painting?? Don't offer to help with repairs if you don't mean it...I am only kidding, but that joke may become far more serious if I'm bleeding cash mid-renovation on a future project in Maine.

@Bonnie Griffin Kaake Very good point on taxes! A major part of REI that interested me was trying to save money from them as they really do destroy our wealth. I'm looking for CPAs that specialize in RE or REI, but am also hoping to network one with any investors I meet in the area.

Welcome to Maine Logan! It is great to hear about your enthusiasm for investing. Auburn is a great place to get started. Recently I completed a BRRR in Auburn and then sold it and did a 1031 exchange into an investment in Biddeford. The median prices in Auburn are below the median in Maine and there are many opportunities. Wishing you success!
