Newbie to BiggerPockets and Real Estate!!
Hello BiggerPockets,
My name is Chloe Darst. I am 22 years old and have recently decided to pursue real estate investing.
I am in the market for a single family rental property in East Tennessee, where I currently live. Although, I have much to learn before this goal becomes a reality.
For now my goal is to connect with New Investors, who are still learning the basics like myself, along with experienced remodels, to help teach me the ropes of real estate, as I continue to learn and grow.
I am very excited to join the BiggerPockets community and would absolutely love to connect with others, so please feel free to reach out!
Hi Chloe, One of the easiest ways of scaling in real estate today is to invest in turnkey properties out of state. If you have a busy 9-5 routine but have the money to get started and don't have enough time, turnkey companies provide some of the best resources to scale your portfolio. I have used that strategy so feel free to reach out if you want to discuss.
Hi John, it's a great place to learn and further investigate investing in real estate!

Hi Chloe. Great to see another young woman entering into the exciting and opportunity-filled world of real estate investing.
Have you considered looking for a duplex that you can househack (live in one side and rent out the other)? This would allow you to get a low money down FHA-loan while living cheap or free. You only need to live there for a year, and then you could always move and rent out that side as well.
I am a new investor who is still learning, but I am finished with or working through most of the BiggerPockets books currently - a new batch arrives later today.
However, don't forget the importance of not only education but turning education into action. Don't let analysis paralysis get the best of you.

Welcome Chloe!
@Chloe Darst
Welcome Chloe! I’m in TN as well and would love to connect!
Hi @Chloe Darst welcome to the BP community!
Some of my partners invest in Tennessee and I hear it’s a great market. I think it’s awesome that you are wanting to start small with a single family, as it’s typically the most achievable way to get your feet wet!
I started with a single family a few years ago at the same age and you can definitely get creative with your approach! Don’t take no for an answer!
Best of luck with your goal to find a property!
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and starter tips!

Hey Chloe, welcome to the BiggerPockets community! I highly recommend that you go to the education tab on BiggerPockets. This helped out a lot of people and I'm pretty sure you will learn from it too. I also find the local REI networking groups and meetups to be one of the effective ways to connect with others. You can also consult with Lenders and Brokers and ask them for suggestions on who might be a good real estate mentor most will be able to provide one for you. Wish you all the best on your real estate journey!
Welcome to the world of Real Estate Chloe! I second Jewel's thoughts. I just purchased my first SFH earlier this spring. I was looking to house hack but inventory was low and I was getting beat out by other buyers. I would highly recommend you become familiar with power of leveraging FHA and house hack. Read all of BP's books and persevere! Best of luck.
Hey Chloe I am in the knoxville area and am in my first couple years of investing as well. I have a house in the belle morris area of knoxville close to where you are looking for real estate. If you have any 1st time home buyer questions or any questions knoxville related, just pm me and I will give you some insight. The advice about house hacking and using a FHA is the best advice. Also be creative and be open to renting by the room if you need to for a house hack. I know without alot of capital it can be very difficult to find a duplex for house hacking. I hope this message finds you and adds value to your real estate investing journey!
Hey Chloe!
I came across this post looking for East TN meet-ups...
I'm actually in the same boat as you! Just bought my first primary residence and looking to learn/begin investing in real estate. Looks like we live in roughly the same city so I would love to see if we can get some other East TN/Tri-Cities folks together for a meet up or something!
