Any teachers who are also Real Estate Investors?

Hi all -

I'm new to BP and have really enjoyed thumbing through the forums and getting started with the podcasts. I'm currently an elementary teacher in Newark, NJ and am interested in beginning to invest in buy-and-hold properties in and around my area within the next year. I was wondering if there were any other teachers out there that have found success with investing? As I work at a charter school, we have longer days and a longer year than most, but I still have about four weeks off during the summer that I'd like to use to maximize my business, and figured there's probably other teachers out there doing the same!

I plan to spend this summer researching and developing a plan with my business partner, and then save next school year for a down payment on my first multifamily to hopefully occupy and rent out starting next summer. Hoping to connect with any similar investors in the area this year, and definitely plan on attending the BP MeetUp in Summit soon (still need to find the coordinator/invite)!

Hey i'm not a teacher but my partner in one business is. She is a seventh grade science teacher, we have definitely had success and while there are challenges with her schedule we still make it work. I would advise finding a partner perhaps like me with more free time that can operate more of the day to day perhaps someone who already has an established business?

Thanks for asking this question! I am a teacher in a charter school in New York contemplating the same thing! I've talked about this with some of my co-workers about this to learn that they are have some experience with real estate and are willing to help me learn some of the ropes as we look into co-owning something together. Any pieces of regarding this?

All the best,
Sable
