Hello BiggerPockets Community!
My name is Preston Jackson III, and I live in Sacramento, CA with my wife and three children. My experience in real estate is purchasing our primary residence. For work, I educate teachers of California about their pension and how it works.
My initial real estate goals is to educate myself on the subject of real estate investing and to find an experienced mentor. Also, I am interested in investing in multi-family (small) properties, but I am open to a great deal. I came to join BiggerPockets from my sisters friend who also listens to the podcast and while I was listening to other real estate podcasts, BiggerPockets was frequently mentioned.
There are quite a few REIAs (Real Estate Investing Associations) in an around Sacramento. That is where I suggest starting. I just went to a great one last night that had about 105 people in various parts of the business.
I suggest that you go to the website meetup.com, create an account and search for "real estate". Make sure to search in Sacramento and other areas like Roseville, Rocklin, and Elk Grove. The one that I went to yesterday was the Roseville meet up hosted by David Oldenburg.

You definitely have the right frame of mind in seeking a mentor - a seasoned local investor can be invaluable in helping you learn the tricks of the trade here.
I definitely struggled to find some great mentors myself, however, and I think that my experience could perhaps be of value to you!

@Preston Jackson III - welcome to BP, this is a great resource. Stay active on the site and meet other local investors in the Sacramento area. Networking meetups are great for that, as are smaller 1on1 meetups.
