How would I get started In DIY?

Hello Bigger pockets So I Want to get into the construction and repairs of the house, but I don't know how to get started.
1. Would I just youtube everything until I get it?
2. Do i need any legal documentation of fixing the roofs and what not?
3. Should I work with a Contractor? If so How would Find one to work with? And what skillset or background should you have?
4. Are there any books on DIY your house?
