Hello all,
We've been lurking for a while and doing research to begin investing in real estate. After a few months of reading and searching, we settled on Brandon, MS as a location and just purchased our first rental home. We just wanted to jump in and engage with this community, as I'm sure we'll have questions along the way. We're looking for one more home to get started, and then get into the flow from there.
We've used Roofstock for this transaction, and thus far had a great experience.
We're from New England and have one rental home there, but this will be our first remote property.
Thanks!

How did you settle on Brandon? Have you ever been there? Do you know much about the area?

Hey Colin,
Great to meet you. No, I haven't been there - although I have family in Covington, LA which is about 3 hrs away and I do have a fondness for the South. Really, it seemed like the financial data combined with the neighborhood and school system ratings were an exceptional mix for this area - and hard to find elsewhere. We also looked at Lexington, SC area - but met a great broker in MS that made us feel comfortable. We're also looking at Canton, MS.
I've really enjoyed Roofstock so far, I feel like we were able to access good data up front - putting in an offer was simple, the team they have connected us with so far (broker, PM, Title, etc.) have been very friendly and responsive. They are also taking care of the admin side of things, so I just have to be available when called upon - but don't need to drive the process.
Happy to answer other questions as we move forward.
Thanks,
Pat

Brandon is a good area, really you need to know the local counties and schools the properties land in. Northwest Rankin and Brandon HS both fall in Brandon and both are good. We invest in Madison County which is comparable, arguably slightly more expensive in the good areas, but in my opinion better appreciation. We are looking into Brandon/Rankin Co for our next purchase.
