Who writes the contract?

Good morning BP,

I'm soon to embark on a home remodel project (a first), and I'm curious who provides the contract?  

I have contractors coming out to review the project to get an idea on the budget before design and final scope.  From there I'd check references and choose the contractor I'm most comfortable with.  Should I be generating the contract?  Where would I get a boiler plate contract?  Do i need to get a lawyer involved?
