My girlfriend and I are looking to make our first purchase, and house hack a large place. I've noticed the price has been dropped about 60k since it was first listed in the beginning of the year. What are some good resources to look into the property and find out if something major is wrong?

Hi Robert! I'd recommend hiring a general inspector to inspect the property (in my market it costs about $400 for a top-tier inspector to do a full-nelly inspection, and that's peanuts compared to what it's saved me on different deals). In addition to the general inspector you'll want to have a termite inspection done (probably, unless you live in a place without those pesky critters).
Your real estate agent should have some great recommendations for these service providers, along with the trade-specialists (like a heating and air person, plumber, etc) for follow-up inspections in case the general inspection shows a need for follow-ups.
Best of luck!

HI Robert,
I have some great recommendations for both a home inspector and a free pest inspection. Send me a PM and I will get you their contact information. This is your best bet for checking the real situation. Sometimes your Realtor will have some information depending on their relationship with the selling realtor or private notes that only realtors can see.
Good luck
