Hey guys, so I am currently taking my real estate agent licencing course and I am wondering what brokerage I should look for. I am going to be working part-time due to being active duty military. Should I look more into big name companies or smaller local places?

@Steven Emilio - Once you get your license, you'll start getting contacted by every firm you have and have never heard of - as most will "hire" anyone with a license and a pulse. I started with KW because I liked their training for new agents, since getting licensed does not actually teach you HOW to be successful as an agent. I later switched to eXp Realty and I'm duel affiliated with both eXp and my own firm. eXp is also wonderfully setup for this COVID world.

@Jonathan Taylor Smith - Okay thank you. That’s nice to know that they will also try to reach me. I was initially looking at KW for the same reasons. But I will continue to look at more places

I suggest going to a firm with a big name in your local market with a great training program. See if you can work on a team and learn from the top agents in that brokerage. You want to piggyback off their listings by doing their open houses and meeting buyers and sellers. Don't worry about commission splits in the beginning you want exposure and training.

@Steven Emilio I would do one of two things. Go with a company that has great training like KW and change offices a year later to a better commission split OR join a team and get fed leads until you get to the point that you are self generating. Your split with a team will be higher, but you also won't have to beat down doors to find buyers.

@Jason Sampson - that sounds like a pretty good strategy I think I’m going to try to follow that. But is it hard to rebuild your reputation after you switch brokers?

It does take a little bit to recover from an office switch, but you're still new and don't have much to lose anyways. What you're working today is for work 3-6 months from now. In reality, the goal is to have business come to you vs chasing it; In my opinion, that doesn't happen until the 3 year mark.
