Demographic and Jobs data

Does anyone know of where I can get hold of current and historical data, preferably on a census tract level, of demographics and employment trends?

Seyi,

The data you want is at census.gov, of course.

Data at the census tract level is only available in the American Community Survey 5-Year Studies. This means the data isn't temporally accurate. The most recent 5-year studied were published in 2017 and cover 2013-2017. So, for example, you can get the demographic numbers for a tract, but those numbers represent the time period 2013-2017. You can't get annual numbers from a tract to follow the tract's growth from, say, 2014 to 2015 to 2016. Does this make sense?

A great resource is city-data.com, which compares the 2016 ACS 5-Year Study to the 2000 Decennial Census. Again, not super precise temporarily, but it gives you a sense of how each tract has grown from 2000 to the mid-2010's.

I compiled a massive spreadsheet of ACS 1-Year Studies, which only gets as local as the MSA. If you're interested in a copy, message me your email!

Best,

Jon
