Are Institutional Investors Causing a Housing Bubble?

Hello BP community. I just read an interesting article in the Wall St Journal today regarding Wall st firms spending record amounts in single family housing rentals. Institutional investors and some private wealthy Chinese investors are pouring money in to fund mass purchases of single family homes across the U.S., with some even beginning to build. I sense some speculation since homeownership is increasingly out of reach to most Americans. Could this be a recipe for the next crash in the housing market? What does this mean for “mom and pop” investors? I would appreciate any further insights!

Long story short no I don’t think that’s the case. There was a thread about this the other day. You can find it on my profile on stuff I’ve commented on.
