A rental property has very dark kitchen cabinets and dark granite countertops. The cabinets have glass doors.
Currently each wall cabinet has two inside lights (one mounted to the top pointing down, and one mounted to the bottom pointing up) and one under cabinet lighting the countertop, so a total of three lights for each cabinet, a total of 24 lights. They are line voltage halogen hockey puck lights installed by the previous owner, and half of them do not work, with incorrect wiring.
Trying to decide what to do with them, this is going to be a rental.
Are cabinet lights a desirable feature? Should I just yank them all out? I am not sure it would be a deal maker or breaker either way.
Another option is to replace them. I am thinking of getting rid of the bottom light that point up and just keep the inside top lights and the under cabinet lights. If so, any comments on good reliable brands/models? Line voltage vs low voltage? Incandescent vs halogen vs LED? I have seen some fancy UC line "strips" are those worth considering?

Flip? . . . maybe upgrade 'em, but not in an entry level property.

If just "accent", don't bother. yank 'em.
If they're necessary for seeing, consider what type of lighting makes the best sense. Bigger light for kitchen..? Replace cabinet lighting..?
I dunno man, even with the glass cabinet doors (the reason for the interior lights probably) I would still probably do the opposite of what you are talking about. Take out the inside lights and keep the undermounts. The undercabinet lighting is a nice look, especially with dark counters, and it is pretty short money. One every 4 feet or so, for about $100 for good ones. Dead simple install for your electrician.
Well, here's what I did & it's a cheap cop-out, basically.
Yank whatever isn't working (since it's a rental) - I would keep all the lights under the cabinets that illuminate the granite workspace. Since that's dark, more light is preferable.
I bought some LED light strips (3-4 lights each) that are battery-operated. These are available anywhere, in many sizes & configurations. Turn them all on when you show the place, of course!
It looks nice & if the batteries die, it's the tenant's choice to replace them or not.
I would remove them. Sounds like too much maintenance. The proposed tenants will not rent the place because of these.
