Square footage of a SFR

It should be pretty straightforward, Brenda. I would go to the county assessor's website where your property is located and do a property search. This should provide all the property information that you need, sq. ft. bedrooms, bathrooms, etc.... Cheers!

The assessors websites in our area don't have much info on the property and they don't show the square footage. To get the true square footage you would need to measure it. If you have a Realtor they should be able to do this for you.

Hi Braden, you are right!  The Assessor's office had the property but no square footage info.  I've tried calling some appraisers to find out what they think I should do to get the information I want.  I hope it won't be too costly for me at this moment.  Since it's Saturday I haven't had anyone call me back yet. Thank you for your input.

All you need to determine sq footage is a tape measure, a pad to make notes and a calculator. It's really basic math... (L x W)

Unless you have a round or oval shaped house...

In response to the other question, it is not really possible to use multi-family homes for comparisons to single family homes. Two completely different things and I can't imagine a Realtor doing that.

I don't know how they do it in Louisiana but here in Texas the quality of information depends on the county. Our Harris County assessor's website is great. They list all the rooms and their functions in addition to the overall square feet of the house. But all the suburban counties are very stingy and provide almost no useful information.
