I spend a lot of money at HD and I'm kinda annoyed. Needed a specific shower stall, saw on the website it was at the 2nd closest store to me, and went to get it. It was $30 more than I remembered. I figured maybe the price had changed in the couple of day since I looked it up, but when I got home I saw the price was the same. When I called the store for an explanation I was told "Homedepot.com has different prices than the store". So if I'd had purchased it online for store pickup I'd have saved the $30, but I had no way of knowing that before getting to the store. I told him that was a nasty and customer unfriendly policy, and got off the phone pissed.
There's stores like Costco where the B&M and online have very little to do with each other, but HD is very integrated. $30, a minor sum is not the issue. This should not be a thing. If they tell you a store has stock, it should be at the price you're seeing.
wal-mart does the exact same thing....it's annoying
I didn't know Home Depot did that. You're right; it's very annoying, especially for something that you can't easily return and repurchase.
I often buy something on lowesforpros.com, which, if you're logged in, has lower prices than lowe's.com. Then, for items that I want to select myself, such as lumber, I rush to the store before the order is pulled so I can do that. It's ridiculous -- no doubt the result of marketing people who never built anything sitting around in a meeting somewhere and finding statistics to justify their dumb ideas.
Walmart's website is awful, with seemingly little connection to what you can go buy at the store. The marketing geniuses have dictated that the store near me build a big, garish orange pickup area outside and a large inside online pickup area. No one uses them.
