how do i get a new mailbox for my home (creating separate unit)

hi, maybe this is a subletting issue, but i got a large home and will be renting out the basement which has its own door  connected to the driveway. what im trying to do is get an additional mailing address/ postal address; what is the procedure for this?

also, is this considered a sublet or an apartment?

In my area, you have to talk to the post office as well as the fire department/emergency management. In our case, we took two buildings 507 and 509 and turned them into one address, 507. There were forms to fill out at both the post office and fire department.

Will the basement unit have it's own water, gas, electric, internet, phone, cable TV services?

You start at the Post Office. They assign addresses. They will have further instructions for your area. Keep in mind that the mail box you buy becomes property of the post office. ;-) That is so it protects the contents (mail) legally.
