Carpet smells after scrubbing

We have a dog (black lab) and just had carpet scrubbed and shampooed this week (carpet is about 4 yrs old). 2 days later (to allow plenty of time) I came back and discovered that the carpet smells like wet dog. The smell is really strong. It is NOT poop or pee cause the dog wasn't doing either. Moreover, it appears that only stairs smell. I smelled every room but can't seem to smell anywhere but the stairs. But maybe I am just going nuts with all this....

Anyway, the Carpet guy advised to spray Lysol ON and ABOVE carpet and vacuum with pet odor killing powder.
Before I do that, I wanted to see if there are other suggestions.
Thanks
