DIY Formica countertops

Does anyone have tips on DIY installation of Formica countertops? I'm thinking of grabbing a slab or two from Lowes or HD to replace current 20-year-old green laminate countertops. I have the time, for now, so plan on testing out the replacement on my bathroom countertops and then doing the kitchen if it's successful. I'd love to learn how to do it myself, any tips would be appreciated.
