Can I refuse a variance allowing my house to stay?

The county engineer that seems to be in charge of the road widening near my house. He said the city will typically just give a variance for my property since it will be either 89’ or 66’ feet from the center of the road or the west bound traffic.

The city said it should be 100 feet minimum on a minor arterial road per their website.

It’s will go from 2 to 4 lanes not including the extra turn lane going onto my property. I don’t want to live that close to a busy road with kids. Is there a way I could refuse a possible variance so they would take my whole property?

Thanks for any insight!
