I am going to put a bandit sign in front of my own house.
Has anyone tried this with any success? I figure even if bandit signs are illegal, would it be in my own yard? I live in a great neighborhood and would love to get deals here.
I have one in front of my house and I get calls from it all the time.
If they're banned by your city, they're probably illegal in your yard, too. There's a mistaken belief that private property isn't covered by city ordinances. It is.

I think placing them in yards is one of the best ways to go with signs.
Placing them in your own yard is good, getting your friends and family to place them in their yards is even better.
In our city, the sign ordinance pertains only to signs placed on public rights-of-way and other people's properties (commercial or residential). Signs in our own yards are excluded to allow for garage & yard sale sign, free kittens, FOR RENT, etc. So we can absolutely put a sign in front of our own houses. Even if your ordinances do not exclude your own private property, let's be serious here. Code enforcement is NOT going after people for putting an 18" by 24" plastic sign in their own yard. I've asked people in the past to find me ONE SINGLE INSTANCE of someone being fined for putting a sign in their own yard. As you might guess, no one has provided a single example.
