Secondary phone number/call forwarding suggestions

Hi

We are wanting to set up a call forwarding service/secondary number.

We want to use it as our maintenance number that we give to tenants and gets forwarded to our phones or a property managers phone when we are out of town.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experience in this?

Ideally I would like one that will ring to my business partners phone first and then if she doesn't answer, rings to mine (if that is even possible).

Thank you.

@D'vorah Nadel, try google voice. Its free and I believe would do what you are looking for.

I run a property management company and use RingCentral.  It would cost additional money but you can have a "company number" and a separate phone number which clones to your phone.  The company number can have a call tree for leasing related issues, maintenance issues, etc.

Don't think GoogleVoice will forward to another number if the first doesn't answer.

We also use RingCentral, but probably more than you want to spend.

Quote from @D'vorah Nadel:

I'm confused. You mention a property manager, but then you're taking maintenance calls yourself? Do you only hire a PM when you are out of town?

Google Voice allows you to set up a free phone number and then program it to only take messages. The voicemail message is emailed to you, and you can get a notification that they left a message. You can listen to it and decide whether to deal with it right then or wait until later. You may be able to have the email/notification go to your PM or whomever you choose.

Thank you.

Yes, we handle maintenance and property management ourselves except for when we are out of town. At which point we have someone standing in for us. We want something that doesn't need internet to make calls and will work with our cell provider. We live in a rural area.

I would love for our tenants to able to call one number and if its a maintenance issue it goes to my partner, if it is general property /leasing it goes to me. If that is possible.

We are okay to spend some money on this.
